X-ring

X-rings for dynamic aApplications and alternating pressure directions

X-rings from INNSEALS are sealing elements with four sealing edges and are suitable for applications where a conventional O-ring solution is not optimal. Thanks to their special profile, they can be used with different pressure directions – both externally and internally acting.

X-rings offer advantages particularly in dynamic applications: a grease reservoir can form between the sealing lips, reducing friction and wear. In addition, special surface coatings can improve running properties.

X-rings from INNSEALS

An X-ring is a profile seal with an X-shaped cross-section. Compared to an O-ring, it has four sealing points and can therefore achieve a more stable sealing effect and more favorable friction behavior in certain applications.

X-rings are resistant to twisting and can be designed for particularly low friction through suitable surface coatings. This makes them well suited for technical applications where movement, pressure changes or low friction play an important role.

Advantages

  • four sealing edges for reliable sealing
  • suitable for use with different pressure directions
  • suitable for external and internal sealing
  • twist-resistant geometry
  • formation of a grease reservoir possible in dynamic applications
  • less friction and wear
  • can be designed for low friction through surface coatings

Application

  • dynamic sealing points
  • rotating or oscillating movements
  • applications with alternating pressure directions
  • external and internal sealing applications
  • technical assemblies with limited installation space
  • applications where O-rings tend to cause excessive friction or twisting

Temperature ranges for X-rings

The temperature resistance of an X-ring depends largely on the selected material. INNSEALS supplies X-rings in standard materials and specialty materials for different operating conditions.

Standard materials

  • NBR: -30 °C to +100 °C
  • VMQ: -55 °C to +200 °C
  • FKM: -20 °C to +200 °C

Specialty materials

  • H-NBR: -30 °C to +150 °C
  • EPDM: -40 °C to +150 °C
  • FVMQ: -75 °C to +200 °C
  • Polyurethane: -30 °C to +100 °C
  • FFKM: -15 °C to +330 °C
  • PTFE: -200 °C to +260 °C

Your FAQs answered

Frequently asked questions:

Ein X-Ring ist eine Dichtung mit vier Dichtlippen statt einer runden Form. Dadurch bietet er eine bessere Abdichtung und geringere Reibung als ein klassischer O-Ring.

X-rings are particularly suitable for dynamic applications, as they cause less wear and prevent twisting in the groove.

X-Ringe werden aus verschiedenen Elastomeren wie NBR, FKM oder EPDM hergestellt. Die Materialwahl richtet sich nach Temperatur, Druck und Kontaktmedien.

They are frequently used in hydraulic systems, pneumatics, mechanical engineering and automotive technology, particularly at moving sealing points.

No, X-rings usually require specially designed grooves to make the most of their advantages. A direct replacement is therefore not always possible.
